UN:Me: A Psychological Thriller Merging Survival Horror and Social Deduction Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled several fascinating future games, but one in particular has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure seems to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"It's a unique experience where a young woman harboring several personalities inside her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the psyche," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of teenage years. Within her exist four distinct personas, each with their own fears and motivations. These entities can take over spontaneously, releasing their innermost terrors upon her suddenly.

Based on revealed footage, much of the action takes place within a eerie medical facility, though additional clips show the main character navigating a desolate chapel.

A World of Personal Horror

"What makes you afraid of? What causes you uncomfortable?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. People in power. Elements that seem trivial to other people can activate a deep instinct within us. This game explores that idea — anxieties that are unique to each person."

The central mechanic revolves around controlling the persona that surfaces at a particular time. However, these souls will change involuntarily as you play. While exploring, every persona's fears become exaggerated and attack the girl one after another. When the soul shifts, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Unsettling Visuals and a Deadly Choice

At first glance, UN:Me shares striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is populated by orderlies who all share the identical visage, with disturbingly broad grins. Figures in the waiting room have enormous flowers where their necks should be. Floral motifs are a recurring theme, juxtaposing natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four entities inhabiting the protagonist is the "true" one. "Each of the souls asserts that the physical form belongs to them," explains a creator. "During the game, you must determine who is real."

After a player believes a soul is an impostor, they must eliminate it. But, since each soul can deceive or hide the truth, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already eliminated the true [soul] with your own hands," a voice states. "The last one standing might be a fake. In any case, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced launch window, but it is can be wishlist on digital storefronts.
