More than 36,000 Sudanese people have fled since takeover of El Fasher to paramilitary group, states UN agency

In excess of 36,000 civilians have evacuated from Sudan's Kordofan region eastern sector of Darfur beginning Saturday, according to the UN's migration organization.

The key central region separating the country's Darfur provinces and the Khartoum-Riverine region has during recent weeks become the recent fighting area in the 24-month civil conflict between the Sudanese military forces and the paramilitary forces.

Significant Evacuation Figures

An approximated 36,825 people evacuated from five areas in North Kordofan region between 26 October and 31 October, according to the International Organization for Migration.

The civilians, most on foot, traveled to Tawila, a town west of El Fasher that is currently sheltering more than 652,000 evacuated individuals.

Heightened Troop Concentration

Residents of North Kordofan on Monday described a heavy surge in both RSF and army presence across urban and rural areas throughout the state.

Both military groups are contesting control of El Obeid, the North Kordofan state capital and a critical supply and command center that joins Darfur to Khartoum.

"Today, all our forces have converged on the Bara front here," stated an RSF member in a recently distributed video message.

Local Residents Describe Safety Fears

A area citizen of Um Smeima, located west of El Obeid, stated that the number of RSF vehicles had grown considerably since the group's takeover of El Fasher.

"We stopped going to our farms, afraid of fighting," the individual explained.

Another resident, who asked to remain unnamed for safety concerns, also confirmed that "there has been a significant rise in army vehicles and weapons west and south of El Obeid" over the past two weeks.

International Concerns and Calls

A senior UN official expressed concerns last week about "extensive crimes" and "race-driven revenge attacks" by RSF in Bara.

The diplomat cautioned about patterns similar to those in Darfur, where RSF fighters have been charged with mass killings, sexual violence and abductions against specific ethnic communities.

The spiritual head on Sunday urged an quick cessation of hostilities and the opening of relief routes in Sudan, declaring that attacks on civilians and obstacles to humanitarian aid "are producing unacceptable suffering."

Sudan's official envoy to Egypt on Sunday alleged RSF of committing war crimes in El Fasher and stated that the Sudanese government would not negotiate with the armed faction.

The representative further urged the international community to designate the group as a terrorist group.
