The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and had been in communication with the NFL.
The organization omitted the name of the player specifically in their announcement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete directly, shared a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.
No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice missed the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left multiple people hurt. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
Statistically, Rice concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
