One of the co-founders behind the well-known frozen dessert company Ben & Jerry's has stated that parent company Unilever prevented the launch for a new pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.

Ben Cohen, who established the company with Jerry Greenfield, revealed that he will independently develop the controversial product as part of a personal collection highlighting issues Ben & Jerry's was prevented from addressing publicly.

Longstanding Conflict Between Creators versus Parent Company

The recent development escalates the ongoing conflict between the internationally recognized dessert company with its corporate parent, the British packaged goods corporation that has owned Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.

The co-founders have asserted that the parent company and their ice cream division Magnum improperly prevented their company from "maintaining its activist principles".

Watermelon Sorbet becoming a Symbol for Support

Mr. Cohen announced through an Instagram video how he's developing a new watermelon-based sorbet, requesting public suggestions for naming options plus potential ingredients.

“I'm doing what they couldn't,” the founder stated from his kitchen. “I'm making a watermelon-flavored frozen dessert that calls for lasting ceasefire for Palestinians while demanding addressing the harm that was done there.”

This particular fruit has emerged as an emblem for support for the Palestinian people due to its colors, which match those of Palestine's national banner – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Previous Activism plus Recent Developments

Several years ago, the ice cream company ceased sales of their merchandise in areas under Israeli control, resulting in the parent company selling the Israeli operation to an Israeli distributor, thereby permitting ongoing distribution within the occupied West Bank.

The new product line will be developed under Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the socially conscious dessert company which originally created several years back for endorsing ex- political contender Bernie Sanders with the product "Bernie's Back".

Leadership Shifts and Upcoming Plans

Mr. Cohen stated how he plans to create additional ice cream flavors focusing on concerns that the company was prevented from addressing publicly by Unilever.

The announcement comes after co-founder Mr. Greenfield resigned his position at Ben & Jerry's recently, following many years of involvement, citing concerns that its independence had been compromised after Unilever's decision to restrict its social activism.

Previously, Ben Cohen commented that "Jerry has strong compassion and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was breaking it."

"My heart leads me to keep working inside the company to fight for corporate autonomy ensuring that the company can actualise its ethical purpose, the principles which established its foundation and has maintained for over 40 years," he told media outlets.
