Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has left the medical facility, officials in Lagos stated on Wednesday night. The athlete was caught in a vehicular crash outside Lagos on December 29th, a devastating event that resulted in the deaths of two of his valued colleagues.
The sports star had remained in the hospital while recuperating from non-critical injuries, his management team confirmed on Monday. The Lagos state commissioner for information, Gbenga Omotoso, announced via a post on social media that Joshua was deemed clinically fit to leave and heal privately.
“Joshua and his mother were at the funeral home in Lagos this afternoon to say their last goodbyes to his two friends who passed away as they were being readied to be sent home,” the commissioner stated.
Those who lost their lives were confirmed to be Latif Ayodele, Joshua's trainer, and Sina Ghami, a conditioning specialist. The official further stated that the boxer was “heavy-hearted and deeply emotional over the passing of his two dear friends.”
